2022 has been an adventure filled 12 months for G, with plenty of riding adventures exploring new places in the UK. The highlight of the year was a 7 week trip to the Alps, based in the Portes Du Solei region, with plenty of riding in Morzine and the surrounding area. The standout for her was lapping the Nico Vink line in Chatel with her buddies. Luckily she kept it rubber side down the whole trip and returned to the UK seeing a huge step up in terms of her riding ability after two months of pushing the limits day in, day out…
“Riding on my local Chicksands and Woburn trails for weeks doesn’t give you the amount of riding you can have in a day in the Alps”. - G
Tickling the limits as often as G does means every now and again it might catch up with you. Which was the case this year at Woburn, where she had a massive OTB, that she was very lucky to walk away from. Captured on film it quickly made it viral across social media channels. Thankfully in wearing her Fox Rampage Pro Carbon, she walked away reactively unscathed. “It could have been a very different story… so glad I was wearing that helmet, I love it so I’m never not wearing it, it’s so light and airy you hardly know it’s on.”

Needless to say, most of the time G and her bike take a battering. This year G was riding a Juliana Maverick, set up completely stock as you would find off the peg. After a season with G though it’s definitely picked up some ‘patina’. It’s also a little lighter as it’s missing dubious amount of paintwork and carbon. Even the shifter clamp has had a lightweight zip tie upgrade after a another huge OTB recently!
G has been blown away with the Maverick in 2022. She’s seen plenty of progression in terms of speed and technical ability which she attributes to the capability of the bike.
“It’s the perfect bike for me, it’s so planted in the fast rough stuff, I’ve never found it’s limits (on the ground). I couldn’t have had a better set up for 7 weeks of Alpine riding.” - G

For 2023 she has her sights firmly set on making a return to competitive racing again. Familiar with the typical Enduro and DH tracks in the UK she feels as though the MX set up of the new Roubion is going to offer an advantage over her current Maverick.
“I rode a Bronson a few weeks ago and couldn’t believe how nimble it was. It just turns so much quicker than the Maverick allowing me to get on the gas a lot sooner. It might not be as planted on fast, open descents like those in the Alps, but you rarely have that type of riding in the UK.”
Alongside the Roubion, she will also have a V10 CC in the garage, a dedicated race sled. It comes with a mega set of brakes as stock, we’re just hoping she might be tempted to use them… first rule of racing is you have to finish!
Looking back on 2022 it’s quite clear G has developed as a rider, growing confident in her skills, which fuels her competitive nature to push herself to ride harder, faster and higher. With her eyes firmly set on racing competitive Downhill in 2023 she’s agreed on the fact she might need to revaluate her approach and maybe dial it back a few percent in order to actually see the finish line. If this is possible we’re all sure she’ll be one to watch next season, if not in terms of results, definitely in style!
